BINGHAM, Maine — A two-week manhunt for a suspect responsible for robbing two banks in his hometown armed with a hammer ended with his arrest Wednesday, police said.
Travis Carrigan, 35, was booked into the Somerset County Jail and charged with two counts of armed robbery, a Class A felony, Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office said.
Carrigan is responsible for robberies on Jan. 17 at Camden National Bank and Feb. 4 at Skowhegan Savings Bank, both on Main Street in Bingham, Lancaster said.
He acted alone in both robberies, and used the same getaway car, a 1997 Buick LeSabre.
Camera footage and witness interviews eventually led detectives to Carrigan, who was picked up at approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lancaster.
Police say Carrigan eventually admitted to the robberies and was placed under arrest. He remained in county lockup Thursday morning.
Detectives continue to investigate the matter.
