STANDISH, Maine — A Cumberland County man was killed Wednesday morning in a collision on Route 35 in Standish, according to police.

Lt. Tom Williams of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said David Fortin, 53, of West Baldwin was traveling eastbound around 5 a.m. in his Pontiac four-door when Vivian Densmore, 38, of Naples, who was heading west in a Volkswagen lost control.

The Pontiac struck the Volkswagen’s front-passenger corner, according to Williams.

Fortin, who was not wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Williams said. Densmore suffered serious injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center.

Williams said Fortin not wearing a seat belt was a major factor in the accident, along with speed and road conditions.

Both vehicles were demolished in the accident, the lieutenant said.
