BUCKSPORT, Maine — A local motel was damaged by an early morning fire Friday, according to officials.

Crews were called to the Spring Fountain Motel at 12:38 a.m., according to Bucksport fire Capt. Pam Payson.

Payson said flames were spewing out from the motel’s east wing when crews arrived on scene and black smoke was coming out the front and the back. The fire started in the east end of the structure.

“It’s a long hotel,” she said. “There was a lot of black and heavy smoke.”

Firefighters from Bucksport, Orland, Orrington, Ellsworth and Penobscot managed to get the blaze under control in about 45 minutes.

No injuries were reported, and the motel suffered thousands of dollars in damage. The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a cause.
