PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – James Harold Seymour, 84, of Portsmouth, N.H., passed away Monday, March 24, 2014, at his home due to dementia. He was born April 12, 1929, in Millinocket, the son of the late James Fred and Jennie (Saunderson) Seymour. He was a graduate of Bangor High School, Bangor, and received his bachelor of science from New Hampshire College in 1982.
Jim, also known as Harold, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947-1974, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. During his Air Force career he served in Korea during the war and was stationed overseas in Japan, Spain, Germany and Turkey, as well as many bases throughout the United States. After retiring to the Portsmouth, N.H., area in 1974, Jim continued to work for many more years, first at Port City Nissan and later at Seymour Woodworking.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martine D. (Caron) Seymour; children, Bonny E. Seymour of San Diego, Jacqueline M. Dietle and husband, Dave, of Dover, N.H., James Mark Seymour and wife, Susanne, of Dover, N.H., and Richard A. Seymour and wife, Kathleen, of Barrington, N.H.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Audrey Fox of Eddington, Celia McDevitt of Cumberland, and Earl Seymour of Brewer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer A. Remick in 2011; and his brother, Ray Seymour in 1986.
A memorial visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, N.H.
