MACHIAS – Juanita Hope (Rice) Ramsdell, 76, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at EMMC, Bangor, with her family at her side. She was born July 6, 1937, in Lubec, the second of six children to Milton and Nina (Farmer) Rice.
Juanita attended Lubec schools. She married Henry Clyde Ramsdell on Feb. 5, 1955. Together they raised six children, Patricia, Ricky, Gregory, Debra, Daniel and Cynthia.
Juanita worked at Look’s Canning Company in Whiting and Bay Ridge Elementary School in Cutler. She also enjoyed making crafts, crocheting and yard sales.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry in 1986, her two brothers, John and Ray Rice; and a grandson, Joshua Gardner. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Tony Larracey. She is survived by all six children and their families including 20 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren and two great-granddaughters yet to be born this year. Nita is survived by her three sisters, Noreen Preston, Jane Mathews and Evelyn Knight; and one sister-in-law, Ina Scoville; and many nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her special companion, Ed Butler.
A service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at Downeast Baptist Church in Machias. A reception will follow. The family wishes to thank both Downeast Community Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center for their care given while she was a patient. Arrangements are made by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias.
