Coach Steve Trimper’s keys to the series: “It’s going to come down to a battle where we have to play clean defense and capitalize when they give us chances to score. They’ve [Hartford] done a great job of developing their younger players over the last couple of years.”

Game notes: The Black Bears, who have lost four of their last six, want to get on track after losing last weekend’s series to poor field conditions. UMaine has only two other AE home series, both in mid-May. Hartford, which has matched its 2013 win total, is coming off Wednesday’s 6-2 nonleague loss to Bryant. The Bears are AE’s top hitting squad at .287 and are averaging 4.5 runs per contest. However, the Hawks lead the league in pitching with a 2.43 team ERA having allowed only 174 hits in 207 innings.
