AUGUSTA, Maine — Central Maine Power’s annual spring inspections of transmission lines are underway, and the company is using a helicopter to perform them.

The flights are a part of the company’s inspection program to ensure safe, reliable delivery of power to residences and businesses throughout its service area.

The inspections are performed every spring and fall.

In addition to the visual inspections, CMP also conducts flights over the entire transmission system during the summer using a chopper equipped with infrared thermal imaging equipment to detect hot spots that may require attention.

The company owns nearly 2,500 miles of transmission line.
