PORTLAND, Maine — A section of Congress Street was closed for much of the morning after a robbery at CVS Pharmacy and the subsequent discovery of a suspicious device Friday morning, police said.

The street had been shut down between Brown and Casco streets as the device was found in a trash can, Assistant Police Chief Vern Malloch said.

The device was discovered while police investigated the robbery, Malloch said.

A man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident, and his name was not released, Malloch said.

The device is believed to be related to the robbery, and the street was closed for much of the morning. Malloch said shortly after noon the road has since reopened.
