ROCKLAND, Maine — Oceanside High School, which is divided into two buildings in two towns, will be losing both its principals.
Lawrence Schooley, principal of Oceanside High School West in Thomaston, submitted his resignation this week. Three weeks ago, Tom Forti, the principal of Oceanside High School East in Rockland, announced he was leaving at the end of the school year for an unspecified job.
Schooley will be joining Child Development Services as director of its Rockland center. Child Development Services provides educational services to children before they enter public schools.
Schooley has been principal at Oceanside West since its creation three years ago. He will remain on through the end of June.
Interim Regional School Unit 13 Superintendent Michael Wilhelm said Wednesday that the resignation of both principals affects the proposal he made to have one administrator oversee both high schools. Oceanside East serves students in 10th through 12th grades, and Oceanside West educates students in eighth and ninth grades.
Wilhelm said the board will need to decide what it wants to do in terms of the structure of the administration for the high school and then he will work to fill whatever positions are needed.
