BREWER, Maine — A local woman was taken to a hospital for an evaluation late Thursday afternoon after she jumped from the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge into the Penobscot River, a Brewer police official said.
Officer Mike Wilson was called to the Brewer side of the bridge shortly after 4 p.m. for a report that a woman apparently had jumped into the water with the intention of harming herself, Sgt. Nelson Feero said.
The woman reportedly swam to shore by the time Wilson arrived. Passers-by who saw the incident covered the woman with blankets until an ambulance arrived to take her to a local hospital, Feero said.
Feero said the woman was cold but not otherwise injured.
