DEXTER, Maine — A Dexter man injured in a shooting in Dover-Foxcroft late last month has been arrested in connection with the case, according to police.
Reginald Melvin, 48, was taken into custody on an aggravated assault warrant on Friday afternoon, Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle said Monday afternoon.
Dover-Foxcroft police had submitted the warrant on Melvin on Friday but were unable to find him, Wintle said. Dexter police found him at the Family Dollar store in town on Friday.
“I found him around 4:20 in the afternoon,” said Wintle.
Two other men, Kyle Corson, 21, and Wilbur Joe Corson, 25, were arrested on April 25 and charged with attempted murder in connection with the case, Piscataquis County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy has said.
The Corsons, who are cousins, also were charged with aggravated assault, elevated aggravated assault and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. One has refused to talk to police while the other claims he blacked out and does not recall the events of the shooting.
According to Reginald Melvin’s son Dale, the elder Melvin was shot on Lancaster Avenue during an altercation with a group of young men on the morning of April 22. Reginald Melvin was subsequently brought by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, and he left the hospital on April 25.
Dover-Foxcroft police have said the men involved in the shooting have a history of violence, including a street brawl in Guilford last summer in which one man was shot and three others were sent to the hospital.
Wintle said Melvin is being held on $2,500 cash bail at the Piscataquis County Jail.
