ANSON, Maine — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an alleged stabbing that sent one man to the hospital on Saturday morning.

“It appears that it’s a relationship that had gone bad,” said Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

The two men involved were apparently in an altercation over a woman, according to Lancaster.

“It appears that an ex-boyfriend was fighting with a new boyfriend,” Lancaster said.

Lancaster did not release either of the men’s names as nobody has been charged in the incident.

The incident happened shortly after midnight, and police were called around 8 a.m., according to Lancaster. A knife was reportedly involved, he added, and one man was transported to Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan for injuries not considered life-threatening.

“The complexity of this case is that we’re still looking into if in fact there was a knife involved,” Lancaster said. “We’re working with the district attorney on how we’re going to proceed.”

The incident remains under investigation.
