SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A local man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a burglary at an ice cream shop earlier this week.
Jerome Schoppee, 37, apparently tried to flee an arresting police detective but was quickly caught, according to Skowhegan Police Chief Ted Blais.
Schoppee is charged with burglary in connection to a break-in at The Ice Cream Shoppe Monday, according to Blais. That business was one of several broken into that evening.
“Investigators are working to confirm that they are related,” Blais said of the other break-ins.
Surveillance equipment at the ice cream shop aided police in their investigation, the chief added.
In addition to his arrest, a search warrant was also executed on Schoppee’s home, Blais said.
Schoppee was charged with burglary, theft, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief and refusing to submit to arrest. He was taken to Somerset County Jail.
