CAMDEN, Maine — A section of Route 1 will be under construction next week so that new water and sewer line connections can be installed to serve a new building being built at 61 Elm St.

The utility work will limit traffic to one lane and cause delays, so travelers are being advised to seek alternate routes, according to a press release issued by town officials on Wednesday.

The work will done by Farley and Sons Inc. of Rockport from Tuesday, May 27, through Thursday, May 29. Construction will begin about 6 a.m. each morning, with the road being reopened to both lanes each evening.

Heading south the work area will be just beyond the intersection of Union and Elm streets and heading north the work area will be just before the intersection of Union and Elm. This location is near the Stop ’n Go store and the Congregational Church.

The new building is being constructed for Coastal Opportunities, which currently is located at 59 Elm St. Once the business is moved, the old building will be demolished.
