BANGOR, Maine — It’s official. Chipotle Mexican Grill, a well-known Mexican restaurant chain, is planning to open a location in Bangor, a corporate spokesman has confirmed.

Though few details were available Thursday, the company is working to set up shop here next year, Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold said Thursday night in an email.

“It’s on the books for early 2015. Stay tuned,” Arnold said. The restaurant’s proposed location was not immediately available.

Attempts to reach city economic development officials Thursday night were unsuccessful.

Founded in 1993 by Steve Ellis, who is the corporation’s chairman and chief executive officer, Chipotle specializes in burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and salads made from fresh, high-quality raw ingredients, according to the company’s website.

Chipotle opened with a single restaurant in 1993 and operates more than 1,600 restaurants, including six ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen restaurants, and is an investor in an entity that owns and operates one Pizzeria Locale.
