SWANVILLE, Maine — A man who hit a telephone pole with his vehicle early Sunday morning, causing a power outage in the neighborhood, was spotted trying to drive away in his damaged Saturn, according to police.
Police said Andrew Feener, 25, of Swanville had been driving while intoxicated, with a test taken after the crash showing his blood alcohol content to be 0.16 percent, or twice Maine’s legal limit of 0.08 for operating a vehicle.
The crash came to the attention of authorities after a woman reported hearing a very loud noise followed by a power outage at about 2:45 a.m. on Town Hill Road, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. He said that she went to her window and saw that a vehicle had hit the utility pole, causing power lines to come down. The driver was trying to get away, she told police.
Authorities who arrived at the scene found that besides getting a fat lip in the crash, Feener had not been injured. He refused to take a field sobriety test, Trafton said, but did allegedly admit to have been drinking.
After he was arrested by Deputy Nick Oettinger, Feener was taken to the Waldo County Jail.
He was charged with operating under the influence.
