ALNA, Maine — A Belgrade man was in satisfactory condition at Central Maine Medical Center on Monday evening after a motorcycle crash Sunday in Alna.
Carl Cooke, 55, suffered a serious head injury when he was thrown from his 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle after it crossed the southbound lane of Route 218 and into the path of a car, according to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Cooke was not wearing a helmet.
According to the release, Cooke was traveling north on Route 218 near the intersection of West Alna Road just before 3 p.m. Sunday, when his motorcycle crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a 2010 Ford Transit delivery-type vehicle driven by Steven Frey, 59, of Newcastle.
Cooke was taken by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was listed in satisfactory condition, according to a nursing supervisor.
Frey and a passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken by Wiscasset ambulance to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
Route 218 was closed for nearly three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared, according to the release.
The crash remains under investigation.
