CAMDEN, Maine — A Saturday morning fire destroyed a residence on Shermans Point Road, according to Andrew Lowe, Camden Fire Department’s assistant fire chief.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The cause remains undetermined, Lowe said, though it was not considered suspicious.

A mail carrier called 911 around 9 a.m. when he saw smoke coming out of the house, Lowe said. When the fire department arrived, the house was filled with smoke.

It took about three hours for firefighters to clear the scene, Lowe said. The fire departments of Lincolnville, Rockport, Hope and Union and Northeast Heath also responded to the blaze.

Lowe said the resident of the home was in town at the time of the fire but not at the house. The assistant fire chief added that that there was nothing to salvage, and what was left of the building would likely have to be torn down.
