PORTLAND, Maine — Police are releasing few details in the death of a man whose body was pulled from the water Monday near the Maine Yacht Center on Kensington Street.

Police were called to the area at the eastern mouth of Back Cove at 3:40 p.m. and found an unconscious man was in the water, Portland police Assistant Chief Vernon W. Malloch said in a statement.

“Efforts by the Portland Fire Department to resuscitate the patient were unsuccessful,” he said. “The death remains under investigation. Witnesses are still being interviewed and other evidence gathered.”

Based on the initial investigation, there does not appear to be any foul play, Malloch said.

The victim’s identity will likely be released Tuesday after notification of next of kin, he said.
