BANGOR — Zechariah Palmeter of Bangor Christian School was honored with a scholarship from Mainely Character, an organization that awards scholarships based on character: integrity, courage, responsibility and concern for others.
Zechariah Palmeter, a 2014 graduate of Bangor Christian School, received a $2,500 Mainely Character Scholarship, sponsored by Northeast Bank.
Mission trips to Africa and Guatemala taught Palmeter about finding joy in the face of poverty — and fueled his mission to be positive and assist others. In addition to becoming a leader and role model at school, he’s also left his mark as a Boy Scout, spearheading an effort to construct a 20-foot long bridge for his Eagle Scout project.
“Zac also developed a clever program that collects unused funds from student meal plans at the University of Maine, and distributes them to a local food security group,” said Shannon Odom, mortgage sales manager at Northeast Bank, in a press release. “He has a terrific mix of leadership skills, compassion, and ingenuity.”
Palmeter will attend the University of Maine to major in mechanical engineering.
Mainely Character is accepting new sponsors and donors to continue providing Maine scholarships to Maine students. For information, visit MainelyCharacter.org.
