BREWER, Maine — Police have released the names of the six victims involved in a fatal collision on North Main Street on Tuesday.

Initial investigation has determined a Chrysler sedan driven by Joseph Richard, 76, of Mexico was headed westbound when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck an eastbound Land Rover operated by Robert Collins, 67, of Barnstable, Massachusetts, according to Brewer Deputy Chief Jason Moffitt.

Two passengers in Richard’s vehicle, Joseph Laplante, 85, and Ella Laplante, 86, both of Rumford, died in the crash, Moffitt said.

Also injured were Judy Collins, 69, of Barnstable, and Marjorie Richard, 76, of Mexico, according to Moffitt.

All four were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries, Moffitt said.

North Main Street, which is also Route 9, was closed until about 5 p.m. Tuesday while the accident was reconstructed.

A Bangor police reconstruction team assisted Brewer police at the scene, while Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies also responded.
