BAR HARBOR, Maine — A man from Monroe, New York, was arrested on two charges after the sport utility vehicle he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree early Saturday, Bar Harbor police reported.
Keith Karabec was charged with operating under the influence and failure to report an accident by the quickest means possible.
Karabec was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer east on Cromwell Harbor Road when he went off the road near Kebo Street and struck a tree close to the right shoulder, said Sgt. David Kerns. Karabec suffered minor injuries, he said, and the vehicle was damaged extensively.
A third party reported the accident, which occurred at about 3 a.m., according to Kerns. When an officer went to investigate, Karabec was not at the scene, Kerns said, but the man came to the police station about 8 a.m. and reported the accident.
Karabec posted a $250 cash bond in order to be released on the two charges.
