MONMOUTH, Maine — A local man was taken to a Lewiston hospital Tuesday morning after a single-vehicle accident on Route 132, police said.

Shawn Schultz, 37, and his wife and three children were on their way home from Pennsylvania when the accident occurred around 6 a.m., according to Monmouth Police Chief Kevin Mulherin.

Schultz and his family were heading north on Route 132 at the time of the accident, according to Mulherin.

Schultz had to be extricated from the vehicle and was brought to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, the police chief said.

Schultz’s wife, Jenora, and their children, ages 5, 3 and 8, did not require a trip to the hospital, Mulherin said.

The chief added driver fatigue likely played a factor in the accident. The Honda Pilot that Schultz was driving was demolished.
