ROCKLAND, Maine — A 34-year-old Washington woman is accused of driving drunk with three children in the car over the weekend.
Crystal Saunders was arrested about 9 p.m. Sunday after Rockland Police Officer Scott Redmun stopped her vehicle on Pleasant Street near Lisle Street after observing her driving erratically.
Police received a report earlier about a citizen driving drunk with the children in the vehicle. A member of the Rockland Public Works Department spotted the car and reported the driver’s erratic driving to police.
There were three children — ages 13, 12, and 4 in the vehicle — according to Rockland Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower.
Saunders was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
She was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland and the children were turned over to family members.
Saunders remained in jail unable to meet $250 cash bail until she made her initial court appearance Monday afternoon in Rockland District Court. During that appearance, Judge Richard Mulhern ordered her released on personal recognizance with bail terms that included she not be allowed to drive with those children in the car.
