SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A mother who drove 127 mph on the Maine Turnpike in April with her two children in the car was sentenced Monday to 180 days in jail — just three weeks after she was arrested again for allegedly operating under the influence with a child in the car.
Detective Donald Blatchford of the Scarborough Police Department told CBS 13 News that an officer spotted 26-year-old Cheryl Gilson driving erratically on Route 1 just before 2 p.m. July 13. The officer pulled her over near the intersection with Enterprise Drive, the detective said.
Gilson was arrested and charged with violation of bail, endangering the welfare of a child and operating under the influence.
Blatchford said there was a child born in 2007 in the vehicle who was not in a car seat, and two other adults were in the vehicle. The child’s relation to Gilson and the passengers was not clear.
In April, a trooper stopped Gilson for going 127 mph with her two children, age 5 and 3, in the vehicle. The Cumberland County Jail said Gilson pleaded guilty Monday to charges of driving to endanger, endangering the welfare of a child and driving more than 35 mph over the speed limit.
