LIMERICK, Maine — A local woman was killed and a man seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident on Doles Ridge Road on Saturday night, police said.

Sgt. Stephen Thistlewood of the York County Sheriff’s Office came upon the accident while on routine patrol at 9:30 p.m., according to Chief Deputy William King.

Thistlewood was removing a tree branch in the road when he heard moaning and groaning from a ditch, King said, and the sergeant found Frank Flaherty, 28, of Biddeford semi-conscious and suffering from a head injury.

The sergeant then found a 2005 Jeep upside down in the woods and Kelsi Banks, 22, unresponsive behind the wheel, King said.

Preliminary investigation revealed the Jeep had been traveling east on Doles Ridge Road when it crossed the centerline and went onto the left shoulder of the road, King said. The vehicle subsequently came back onto the road before striking several trees and rolling over.

Neither Banks or Flaherty appeared to be wearing seat belts, and Flaherty was ejected from the vehicle. Banks was pronounced dead at the scene.

Flaherty was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland by LifeFlight helicopter. The accident remains under investigation.
