Steve Babineau has resigned as the head coach of the Saint Joseph’s College men’s soccer team after five seasons and has been replaced by Adrian Dubois, the school announced in a news release Monday.
Babineau cited family reasons for leaving, as he and his family will be moving to North Carolina later this month.
“This was certainly a bittersweet decision for me,” Babineau said in the release. “I’m excited to begin the next chapter of my life, but deciding to leave Saint Joseph’s and the athletic department was not easy. Saint Joseph’s truly is a special place and the support I’ve received during this transition can’t be put into words. I truly enjoyed working with the people in this department and I may be leaving, but I will be a ‘Monk’ for life.”
Babineau, a former soccer standout at the University of Maine Presque Isle, posted a 52-40-6 record and ranks as the winningest coach in the school’s 24-year history of men’s soccer. He guided the Monks to Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament appearances in each of his five years and led the team to a pair of league titles and its first NCAA tourney appearance.
”Steve was a true professional during his time at Saint Joseph’s,” St. Joe’s Athletic Director Brian Curtin said. “We are sorry to see him go, but at the same time excited for him and his family as they start this new journey.”
Dubois comes to St. Joe’s after serving as an assistant for the University of Massachusetts Boston last season.
He also worked for two years as an assistant at University of California San Diego.
A native of Acworth, New Hampshire, Dubois played collegiately as a four-year starting midfielder at University of New Hampshire after collecting New Hampshire High School All-America and Gatorade Player of the Year accolades following his senior season at Fall Mountain Regional High School.
Dubois went on to play professionally for several clubs, including a three-year stint with the San Diego Flash of the National Premier Soccer league and with the Los Angeles Blues of the United Soccer League.
Guynes named Colby football assistant
Jon Guynes, a former linebacker at Lehigh University and a coach at many levels of college football, was named an assistant coach for the Colby College football team Monday.
Guynes most recently coached at the University of Connecticut, assisting with the defensive line and special teams. He will coach the running backs for Mule head coach Jonathan Michaeles.
“We are absolutely thrilled to add Jon to the Colby football program. He is a bright coach with experience at some tremendous institutions,” Michaeles said in a news release. “He has played and coached at the Division I, I-AA, II, and III levels. His experience is an asset that will benefit our players and program in a big way.”
Guynes was on the same coaching staff at University of Connecticut with current Colby offensive coordinator Shane Fogarty. Both coached under then head coach Paul Pasqualoni, currently the defensive line coach with the NFL’s Chicago Bears and a former Syracuse University head coach.
