ROCKLAND, Maine — Three people were taken to the hospital following a Tuesday evening head-on crash on Route 1.
The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. when a northbound 2003 Chrysler Town and Country minivan attempted a left turn onto Park Street and crashed into an oncoming vehicle, said Rockland Police Sgt. Tony Camporiale. He said the driver of the van — Barbara Seiders, 46, of Thomaston — reported she did not see the southbound vehicle until it was too late.
Her vehicle collided head-on with a 2001 Chevy Tahoe sport utility vehicle driven by Danielle Delano, 26, of Cushing.
The two drivers and a passenger in Seiders’ vehicle — her mother,Diane Daniello, 69, of Rockland — were all taken by ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Camporiale said none of the injuries are life-threatening but the three people were banged up from the crash.
The Jaws of Life was used to remove one of the occupants of the mini-van.
Camporiale said he witnessed the collisoin and was two vehicles away when it occurred. The fire department and ambulance building is less than a half mile away from the crash site. Traffic was rerouted briefly following the crash.
Thomaston emergency medical staff also responded and South Thomaston backed up Rockland at the station.
