AUGUSTA, Maine — A Scarborough man is facing two manslaughter charges in connection with a fatal car crash in Winthrop in November 2013.
Jeffrey Ray, 44, was indicted by the Kennebec County grand jury last week, according to Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney.
Ray is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9, Maloney said. He was summoned on the two Class A felony charges but not arrested.
Ray was charged in connection with a Nov. 21, 2013 accident on Route 202 in which a box truck he was driving rear-ended a van driven by Richard St. Laurent, 80, of Winthrop, while his wife, Patricia, 74, was a passenger.
Richard St. Laurent died at the scene of the accident, while his wife died of her injuries at Central Maine Medical Center a few days later.
If convicted, Ray could spend up to 25 years in prison on each manslaughter charge.
