‘Choosing Wisely’

OLD TOWN — When should you use antibiotics? Should a woman in her 60s have yearly mammograms, a Pap smear, a biyearly bone density scan? What about a colonoscopy every five or 10 years?

“Choosing Wisely,” a toolbox from the American Board of Internal Medicine, leading medical specialist societies, and Consumer Reports, will help health care consumers ask the right questions and make informed decisions. The event will take place 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Old Town Public Library. Admission is free.

Attendees will leave the session with five key questions, printed on a wallet-sized card, to carry with them so that they can question their doctors appropriately before undergoing any test, procedure or treatment.
