SACO, Maine — A joint investigation by Saco and Kennebunk police has led to the arrest of a Biddeford man who allegedly vandalized several buildings with graffiti.
The sequence of events leading to the arrest of Nikolas Coggins, 22, began on Aug. 30 when Saco police fielded complaints from several local businesses about graffiti, Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland said.
In addition to the businesses, the Eastern Trail pedestrian bridge on Portland Road and the railroad bridge on Front Street were spray painted as well, Holland said.
After the Labor Day weekend, Kennebunk police fielded reports from several businesses regarding graffiti, and Holland said two walls, a sign, work van and garbage dumpster were damaged.
Holland said a posting on Saco police’s Facebook account resulted in a Kennebunk police detective contacting Saco to advise that a possible suspect had been identified.
On Sept. 4, a search warrant was conducted on a Biddeford home and binders of graffiti tags, a backpack containing spray paint, a digital camera and other evidence were seized.
Coggins was arrested the following day and charged with six counts of criminal mischief. He was released on $310 bail from the York County Jail.
