BRUNSWICK, Maine — After Town Council Chairman Benet Pols and School Board Chairwoman Michele Joyce opted not to run for re-election, Brunswick voters will find several new names on the ballot in November.
But voters won’t find many choices. Several races are uncontested, including both the Town Council and School Board seats in one of the town’s more densely-populated districts.
Incumbent District 7 Councilor Sarah Brayman, currently the council’s vice chairwoman, was the only person to return nomination papers by Friday’s deadline to run for that seat, according to Brunswick Town Clerk Fran Smith.
And Sarah Singer was the only candidate to return nomination papers to run for the District 7 seat on the Brunswick School Board that Joyce has held for two three-year terms.
Incumbent School Board Vice Chairman William Thompson similarly is the sole candidate for the at-large seat he has held for one term.
Conversely, District 5 voters will have a choice when they cast their ballots for Town Council and School Board.
Town Councilor Gerald Favreau, who has represented the district since 2006, is opposed for his seat by Daniel Harris. James Grant, who is running for his third consecutive term on the School Board, is opposed for that seat by Christopher Watkinson.
Finally, with Pols not running for a third term, Katherine Wilson and John Portela will vie for that at-large seat on the Town Council.
Election Day is Nov. 4.
