HOULTON, Maine — Two young girls were struck by a pickup truck in Market Square on Monday evening after the driver said he could not see them when the sun obscured his vision.
The two girls, ages 7 and 9, were walking with their mother in the crosswalk by the Temple Theatre movie building at about 6 p.m., when they were struck by the 1972 GMC pickup truck driven by Robert Malone, 42, of Hodgdon, according to Houlton Interim Police Chief Daniel Pelletier.
Pelletier said the girls suffered “bumps and bruises and road rash.” Their mother was not injured, he said. Their names are not being released.
The girls were taken by the Houlton Ambulance Department to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment. No further information about their medical condition was available Tuesday.
No charges have been filed, but the investigation continues.
