Pedroia has season-ending surgery

The season is over for Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia.

Pedroia had surgery on his left wrist Thursday. The Red Sox said the surgery was a success but did not say when he would be able to return to baseball activities.

The 31-year-old Pedroia had been bothered by a sore wrist since the beginning of the season when he landed on it while completing a double play against the Milwaukee Brewers. At that time, he was still recovering from offseason thumb surgery from an injury suffered during the World Series.

Pedroia’s season ends with him hitting .278 with seven home runs, 53 RBIs and six stolen bases. He is signed through the 2021 season and is owed $96.5 million over that span.

Rihanna song dropped from NFL pregame show

CBS Sports decided late Thursday afternoon to change its format for the opening segment of the Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers telecast and drop singer Rihanna’s Run This Town after the Ray Rice domestic violence scandal exploded this week.

The network’s pregame show switched to a report by CBS This Morning’s Norah O’Donnell after her interview with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday, according to SI.com.

A narration by actor Don Cheadle over Run This Town also was dropped from the pregame. Rihanna was once a victim of a highly publicized domestic violence case.

“It’s important to realize we are not overreacting to this story, but it is as big a story as has faced the NFL,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus told SI.com

Tebow expanding TV role

Tim Tebow has another job. Not in the NFL as a quarterback but as a contributor to “Good Morning America.”

ABC announced Thursday that it was adding the former Heisman Trophy winner to the show as part of its new “Motivate Me Monday” segment that focuses on uplifting stories of people. Tebow will be in studio and also on location throughout the country.

The former NFL quarterback, who led to the Denver Broncos to the playoffs in 2012, began work in television earlier this summer as an college football analyst for ESPN and the SEC Network that launched last month.
