BIDDEFORD, Maine — The administrator for the state medical examiner’s office said it may be weeks before authorities know for sure what killed two people found dead this week in a Biddeford motel.
However, Biddeford Police Chief Roger Beaupre told the Journal Tribune and multiple other media sources that investigators believe drug overdoses are likely to blame for the deaths of Lynda Norton, 31, and Daniel Pelletier, 28.
Norton and Pelletier were found dead at the Sleepy Hollow Motel at 297 Elm St. just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, told the BDN on Wednesday that police found “no indication of homicide.”
On Friday morning, Mark Belserene, administrator for the state medical examiner’s office, said his office must wait approximately a month for toxicology results to come back before issuing an official determination on what caused the deaths of Norton and Pelletier.
However, Biddeford police reported this week the pair, who had allegedly been living at the motel, was found with drug paraphernalia, including syringes.
The deaths come less than two months after a double shooting a short drive away from the motel, at a Western Avenue apartment building.
In that case, two Maine men were shot dead just outside the building in what state police also referred to as a “drug-related” incident.
