THOMASTON, Maine — A Friendship man remained in jail Monday afternoon after his arrest last week for allegedly trying to steal some items with New England Patriots logos.
Thomas H. Powell, 23, was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Friday and charged with felony theft.
The charge was elevated to felony level because Powell has two prior theft convictions — in 2011 and 2013 in Lincoln County.
Last week, Powell was caught with a Patriots license plate holder, a Patriots window sticker and a bottle of Hawaiian punch water enhancer stuck down his pants, according to an affidavit filed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
The value of the items was about $20.
Powell was held by a Wal-Mart asset protection officer until police arrived. He was then taken to the Knox County Jail where he was held without bail because he is alleged to have committed the offense while on probation.
Judge Susan Sparaco set bail at $1,000 cash during his initial court appearance Monday afternoon in Rockland District Court.
