BANGOR — Bangor Public Library will begin its interior renovation in the next few weeks and subsequently has put a hold on adult programming for the duration of the project. Some special events will be mixed in, but generally speaking, adult programming, typically seen in the Lecture Hall, will be suspended. However, the library’s youth services department will continue with regular programming and special events!

“During the interior renovation, the library is going to need space within to move,” said Barbara McDade, director of the Bangor Public Library. “Our meeting spaces will be used to house books and staff, as needed, while the project progresses. However, our youth services department will still be offering daily programming and special events.”

Recurring fall programming, including Mother Goose, Tiny Tots, and Teen Improv will begin on Monday,Sept. 15. Go to bangorpubliclibrary.org. for details, including specific dates and times. September also offers two special events for children and teens:

• Coffeehouse Secrets, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. What do you get when you mix a frappe and a cappuccino? You get one of America’s favorite “coffeehouse” drinks. Learn the secrets of how you can make delicious, frozen drinks with simple ingredients and save money, too. What goes better with this tasty, frozen concoction than a nice scone? Nothing. So learn how to make a tasty, tender blueberry scone as well. For students in grades six through 12.

•  APPLE of a Party, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. Celebrate the tasty apple with an afternoon of games, crafts and snacks.

The library’s interior redesign is scheduled to begin this month. The interior renovation consists of a new “front porch” on the 1997 Robert A.M. Stearn addition, a relocation of the children’s department to the third floor, a new teen space, a business center, upgrades in technology, and other renovations to keep up with the needs of library users. The “new” library will be a celebration of its rich history paired with modern advances, resulting in a more agile, user-friendly space.

The Library is still accepting gifts for the annual fund and for special projects that were cut from the original campaign due to budget constraints. One special project, radio frequency identification, features the ability for patron self checkout, increased security measures, and for multiple books to be checked out simultaneously, allowing faster and more efficient interactions.
