When the Old Town Rotary Club holds its annual Charity Golf Tournament at Hidden Meadows Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 20, there will be more at stake than the usual prizes.
The Rotarians have invited the Old Town and Orono High School golf teams to participate in the tournament, and although the two high school teams won’t be eligible for prizes, they’ll be battling for scholastic bragging rights.
The Old Town and Orono High School teams practice together and have the same coach, Joe Perdue, the PGA professional who owns Hidden Meadows Golf Course on Route 43 in Old Town. However, because Old Town is Class B and Orono is Class C, they don’t play each other during the regular season.
Perdue said the Rotarians extended the invitation to the two high school teams when practice started in August, and he’ll select the players for both teams the week before the tournament.
“It will be fun for the high school players to compete against each other and to see how they stack up against other golfers who participate in the tournament,” Perdue said. “They’ll also get a free round of golf, thanks to the Rotary Club.”
The tournament is a four-person scramble with a first prize of $300 (assuming registration by at least 10 teams). The team entry fee is $200, or $175 if paid by Thursday, Sept. 18. Individuals may register for $50, or $45 if paid by Sept. 18.
The tournament starts at 9 a.m.
Team and individual entry blanks are available at Hidden Meadow Golf Course or at Gossamer Press in Old Town.
Tournament proceeds will benefit Sarah’s House, a hospitality house for patients at Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Cancer Care of Maine, and other Rotary charities.
