WATERVILLE, Maine — The city is moving forward on a new Interstate 95 interchange built at Trafton Road.
City Manager Michael Roy said Tuesday the project will cost approximately $6 million, with funding coming from Trafton Properties out of Rhode Island and the Maine Department of Transportation.
Trafton Properties also is seeking a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, according to Roy. Trafton Properties would cover two-thirds of the project and the Department of Transportation one-third.
The proposed interchange would be located about halfway between Exits 127 and 120, near the Waterville-Sidney town line, Roy said.
Should the Trafton Road itself need upgrades, Roy said the city would cover half of those construction costs.
John Melrose, a consultant with Bangor-based Eaton Peabody, which represents Trafton, said construction on the interchange likely would start in late 2015 at the earliest.
