BOSTON – The Boston Celtics announced on Tuesday that Scott Morrison has been named the head coach of the Maine Red Claws, their NBA Development League affiliate.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced.

Morrison will be officially introduced Friday at 11 a.m. at the Red Claws’ office at 413 Congress Street in Portland.

Morrison, a native of Prince Edward Island, brings more than 10 years of coaching experience having served as the head coach of Lakehead University’s Men’s Basketball team in Canada since 2003. During his tenure at Lakehead, he led the Wolves to four straight CIS Final 8 appearances (2010-2013).

Under his leadership, Lakehead went from the worst team in the nation in 2006 to a perennial top-five program from 2008 to 2013. Morrison was named OUA Conference Coach of the Year in 2010.

Since 2012, he has also served as the assistant coach for the Canada National Junior Team (U18/U19). The team won a Silver medal at this summer’s FIBA Americas U18 tournament, and placed 6th at the U19 World Championships in 2013 in Prague, both of which were all-time best finishes for Canada in this age group. In addition to his position with the National Junior Team, Morrison was also invited to assist the World Select coaching staff at the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit.

“I am truly honored to have this opportunity,” said Morrison. “I want to thank both the Boston Celtics and the Maine Red Claws, two top-notch organizations, for believing that I am the right coach for this job. I was fortunate enough last year to spend the season with the Red Claws, and I am excited to be coming back to this great community with the best fans in the NBA D-League.”
