Winkin remembrance service set Saturday at Husson
BANGOR — Husson University will be hosting a remembrance service and a jersey retirement ceremony for former head baseball coach John Winkin at 9 a.m. Saturday. The ceremony will be at the Winkin Baseball Complex and is open to the public.
Former players and colleagues will speak on Winkin’s influence in their lives, and his son, David, will spread Winkin’s ashes near the field. Winkin’s jersey No. 5 will also be retired.
Winkin, who died at age 94 on July 19, won 1,043 games during his time at Colby College, Maine and Husson University, and was inducted into 11 halls of fame, including the College Baseball Hall of Fame last year.
He finished with a record of 1,043-706-16.
Husson’s Winkin Complex, home to the baseball, field hockey, and football teams, is named his honor, as his vision and generous donations helped transform Husson’s baseball field into a multi-sport complex.

Surgery will not be required to repair the foot, which Harding injured during an off-ice incident. He was off to a good start last season with a league-best .933 save percentage and 1.65 goals-against average in 29 appearances when he was sidelined by his ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis. His workouts were reported to be going well during the past month before he hurt the ankle.

Stroman hit Joseph in the bottom of the sixth inning during a game on Monday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
