CASCO, Maine — A 60-year-old man was critically injured on Thursday morning after being hit while walking on Poland Spring Road, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Capt. Don Goulet of the sheriff’s office said in a news release that Richard Crossman of Casco was walking southwest on the road where he lives just before 11 a.m. Thursday when he was hit by a Chevy PT Cruiser traveling the same direction.
The PT Cruiser was driven by Heidi Bernier, 42, of Raymond, according to Goulet.
Crossman was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with what police called critical injuries.
Bernier was treated and released on scene.
The accident and what caused Bernier to hit Crossman remains under investigation, Goulet said in the afternoon news release. The crash took place near 469 Poland Spring Road. Deputy Kim Emery responded to the scene, Goulet said.
