As the weather continues to cool and we move into the third week of the high school football season, it is season guest Matt Boutwell who holds the lead in the 49th BDN Football Forecast.
Boutwell went 14-6 last week, but still leads sage staffer Larry Mahoney (14-6) by one game. Multiple-time champion Ernie Clark is a close third, two games behind Boutwell
Last week’s guest, former Bangor High School and University of Maine place-kicker Chris Binder of Maynard, Massachusetts, posted a 12-8 record.
This week’s guest veteran broadcaster Don Shields of Thomaston, who has handled play-by-play chores for midcoast high school basketball games for 27 years on various radio stations, including his current gig on Frank-FM 105.5 WBYA of Rockland/Islesboro.
Shields also is the voice of the University of Maine women’s basketball team for Black Bear Sports Properties on stations WGUY-FM 94.1, WGUY-AM 1230, WNZS-AM 1340 AM and WWNZ-AM 1400. The Rockport native and former member of the Camden-Rockport (now Camden Hills) High School baseball team is also the head baseball coach at Oceanside High School in Rockland/Thomaston.
Shields also works as a disc jockey and as WBYA’s sports director. Don and and his wife Mary have three children (Melissa, Jon and Matthew) and one grandson, Silas.
