WEST PARIS, Maine — Twenty-one people are homeless after a fire destroyed their home on Ellingwood Road in West Paris.

Fire officials said the call came in just before midnight Saturday for a fire caused by a pellet stove. When firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in flames, and several area towns provided support to battle the fire.

It appears a pipe from the pellet stove burnt a hole in vinyl siding, sparking the fire that moved quickly to the second floor and attic, fire officials said. No one was injured, but the Red Cross has provided housing for the family, which had no insurance on the home. The pipe may not have been properly installed, according to the West Paris Fire Department.

Crews remained on scene overnight, as did many of the people who lived in the house.
