Bangor’s first startup weekend, where aspiring entrepreneurs gather to brainstorm and develop new business ideas, has been postponed in response to low signups for the weekend event.

The event involves participants taking a full weekend to pitch business ideas, form teams around those concepts and develop them into full-fledged business plans. The ideas are reviewed by a panel of judges and a winner is selected.

The group’s organizers wrote in a blog post they have rescheduled the Bangor event for the weekend of Feb. 6-8, 2015, “in order to allow for greater participation.”

The startup weekend event would have been the first in Bangor. The Lewiston-Auburn area will host its first such event in Auburn during the weekend of Nov. 14-16. The group said people who signed up for the Bangor event would receive refunds for their tickets or transfers to the new event date.
