MEREDA seminar

BANGOR — Maine Real Estate and Development Association, or MEREDA, will meet 7:30-9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Hollywood Casino. Attendees will learn more about how to identify the environmental challenges posed by historic buildings, how to obtain protections from these environmental liabilities, how to access the state and federal grant-loan programs available to address these liabilities, and financing options and criteria for businesses utilizing these properties. The seminar will rely on case examples from recent projects successfully completed in Maine.

Free seminar

BANGOR — A free seminar, “10 Tips for Starting and Running a Successful Business,” will be held 8-11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Spectacular Event Center, 395 Griffin Road.

The seminar will focus on the business and tax side of a business, provide insight on business options, and provide connections to resources to help move forward.

Free seminar

BANGOR — A free, one-hour educational seminar, Smart Social Security Planning, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, on the Bangor campus of the University of Maine at Augusta. The seminar is designed for “baby boomers,” persons who have recently retired or who are approaching retirement age, according to Scott Carter, president of Financial Security Alliance and seminar presenter.

The seminar if free, but reservations are encouraged by calling 862-2196.

Social media series

BANGOR — Eastern Maine Community College will offer Social Media Courses for Small Business, a series for any small business owner or employee interested in learning how to use social media as a tool to get their message out, further their cause, or generate revenue. The series begins 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, Rangeley Hall Room 107, at EMCC. There are no prerequisites. Topics will include Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogs, Google and how to tie everything into a manageable social media plan.

The cost is $200 for the series or $65 per class.

Device workshops

AREA — In honor of Business Women’s Day on Sept. 27, U.S. Cellular will offer free device workshops open to everyone regardless of the kind of phone they have.

The device workshops will take place 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at 403 Wilson St. in Brewer, and 8-9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at 33 Mid Mall Blvd. in Bangor.
