ROCKLAND, Maine — There will be a contested race for the single seat up for election this year to represent the city on the Regional School Unit 13 School Board.

Incumbent Carol Bachofner and former board member Kyle Reniche have made the ballot.

Reniche turned in his nomination papers Monday, the deadline for filing.

Bachofner, Rockland’s poet laureate, was appointed to the school board in June 2011 by the City Council and then won election that fall to a three-year term.

Reniche served on the School Administrative District 5 School Board in 2005 after being appointed in January of that year by the City Council to fill a vacancy. He did not seek election that fall.

He is a clinical social worker who was employed by SAD 5’s successor RSU 13 until his position was cut in June as part of the budget actions.
