Three weeks of the BDN Football Forecast are in the books and a familiar face sits atop the staff standings.
Six-time champion Ernie Clark parlayed a 17-3 record last week into a two-game advantage over season guest Matt Boutwell, Larry Mahoney and Joe McLaughlin. John Holyoke is three games off the pace in fifth place.
Week 3 guest Don Shields of Thomaston, a disc jockey on WBYA Rockland/Isleboro and the voice of UMaine women’s basketball for Black Bear Sports Properties, went 11-9.
This week’s guest Old Town High School physical education teacher and first aid provider Lester Cowan.
Cowan is also the football coach and girls basketball coach at the Leonard Middle School in Old Town. He played football, basketball and baseball at Bangor High School and was a member of the Rams’ 1979 state championship football team.
Cowan graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in physical education in 1984. His son, Lance, is the first-year head football coach at Old Town High School. Lester, is married to Donna Young, also has two stepsons, Josh and Zach.
