There are two weekends of racing left at Hermon’s Speedway 95, but the points races will conclude on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m.
Track owner Del Merritt and head scorer and office manager Kim Baker Allen said it has been a decent year despite several rainouts.
“It hasn’t been a bad year. It hasn’t been spectacular but racing hasn’t been spectacular anywhere,” said Merritt.
Four of the 10 scheduled Wacky Wednesday cards were postponed by rain and only one was made up. And two consecutive Saturday night race cards were wiped out by the weather recently.
“The car counts for Wacky Wednesday were real good and I wasn’t disappointed with Saturday’s car counts, either,” said Merritt.
Crowds were respectable, he added.
On Saturday night, champions will be crowned in four divisions.
Steuben’s Brenton Parritt will take a comfortable 77-point lead over Orrington’s John Kalel Jr. into the battle for the Late Model points title; Glenburn’s D.C. Alexander leads Skowhegan’s Kris Matchett by 46 in the Sportsman class; Harrington’s Alex Berry has a 62-point edge on Hermon’s Jordan Pearson in the Street Stocks and Skowhegan’s Zach Audet leads Old Town youngster Dylan Street by 80 points in the Sport Fours.
The Wacky Wednesday titlists have already been crowned as Hampden’s Travis Beal captured the Modified Enduros by 44 points over Hermon’s Andrew Crosby. Brewer’s Sam Betts was third.
Veazie’s Jordan Harnish won the 100 percent Stock Enduros by 74 points over Mariaville’s Gilbert Ogden with Ellsworth’s Bradley Norris finishing third; Bucksport’s Jim Carr Jr. edged Hermon’s Jeff Overlock Jr. by eight points, with Hermon’s Andrew Crosby third in the Trucks; Trey Brown won the Stars of Tomorrow by 26 points over both Nicholas Cota of Greenfield and Marcus Dunn of Newburgh, with Stillwater’s Caleb Kalel in fourth.
Merritt and Allen said the truck division is in jeopardy of returning next season.
“You can’t have just four or five trucks in a race,” said Merritt.
In two weekends, it will be Cap’s Tavern and Judy’s Restaurant Veterans Appreciation Weekend. Among the features will be a 150-lap Late Model race and 50-lap Sport Four and Sportsman/Outlaw events on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. and Sunday’s 2 p.m. card will be highlighted by the fourth annual Ikey Dorr Memorial Street Stock/Outlaw/Wildcat 100-lapper.
The Ikey Dorr race will pay the winner $3,000 and the Late Model 150-lapper will earn the victor a $2,000 paycheck.
