OLD TOWN — The Presque Isle Wildcats and the Old Town Coyotes played through double overtime to finish with a 1-1 tie in high school boys soccer action Saturday.
Presque Isle got on the board in the first half with a goal from Ben Nickerson. Old Town’s Jeremy Gogan scored to tie it in the second half.
Andrew Paterson of Presque Isle (5-2-1) was solid in goal and made a game saving save in the second overtime, finishing with 15 saves on 16 shots. Zac Libby of Old Town (5-1-1) stopped 8 of 9 shots he faced.
MDI 1, Caribou 1
At Caribou, the Vikings battled the MDI Trojans through two overtimes to a 1-1 tie.
After a scoreless first half, Caribou’s Dustin Bouchard headed a ball off an MDI defender and into the net to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead with 24 minutes to play. MDI’s Joe Grubb evened the score at the 12-minute mark on a Jack Sasner assist.
Simon Hulbert made 8 saves on 17 shots for MDI (1-4-1). Ethan Plourde stopped 9 of 14 shots for the 1-5-2 Vikings.
Central 4, Penquis 0
At Milo, Andrew Speed recorded two goals and two assists to help Central notch the win over Penquis Valley and remain undefeated.
Trevor Macomber gave Central a first-half lead on a corner kick assisted by Speed. Troy Potvin chipped in with a goal and Caleb Shaw had an assist for 7-0 Central.
Goalie Quannah Harrod had 2 saves on 2 shots for Central. Dereck Thomas had 21 saves on 28 shots for Penquis, now 0-6-1.
Ellsworth 2, Hermon 0
At Ellsworth, Jack Weeks scored Ellsworth’s first goal at 20:48 of the first half on a well-executed through pass from linemate Anthony Gardner en route to the win for the Eagles.
Gardner headed in the game’s second goal with 6:48 remaining in the game on an assist from Jeff Weeks.
Ellsworth goalkeepers Bruce St. Peter and Nick Bagley shared the goalkeeping duties, making 2 saves each on 6 shots. Hermon goalkeeper Hunter Clukey made 11 saves on 18 shots.

Jones.-Beals 3, Islesboro 2
At Jonesport, Logan Kenney’s goal with 51 seconds left in the second overtime lifted the Royals to the victory.
Sterling Beal and Dustin Robinson each added a goal for the Royals (5-2-2) and Darrin Peaden made five saves on eight shots.
Jake Pellagrino and Finn Gibson each scored a goal for Islesboro (2-4) and Ian Davis finished with eight saves on 15 shots.
Bangor Chr. 4, Katahdin 0
At Bangor, Tyler Welch scored two goals to help lead the Patriots by the Cougars of Stacyville.
Luke Chandler and Josh Palmeter each added a goal for the Patriots, now 6-1.
Katahdin is now 1-8.
Calais 5, Lee 3
At Calais, Andre Paul netted four goals to propel the Blue Devils to the win against Lee Academy.
Nathan Newell scored what proved to be the winning goal with 18:41 left in the 2nd half. Kyle Johnson had three assists.
For Lee, Kyler Peters scored two goals and added an assist while Luka Stevic chipped in one goal.
Matt Perkins made 16 saves on 22 shots for 1-5 Calais. Sam Mallet had 9 saves on 16 shots for 3-2-1 Lee.
Bangor 1, Mt. Ararat 1
At Bangor, the Rams battled the Eagles of Mount Ararat to a 1-1 double overtime tie.
MA’s Kenny Stimpson scored off a Robbie Small assist with 3:09 left in the first half for the 1-0 lead.
With 35:47 left in the second half, Bangor’s Carson Atherley scored off a crossing pass from Javon Myers to tie it and send the game into overtime.
Goalkeeper Stanley Clark made 10 saves for Bangor (5-0-1) while Jon Roux had 9 for 4-1-1 Mount Ararat of Topsham.
Penobscot Valley 4, DIS 0
At Deer Isle, Grant Doane scored a hat trick to lead the Howlers to victory over the Mariners.
Alex Thompson added a goal for the 4-1-1 Howlers with assists going to Teddy Hallett and Dylan Clement.
Penobscot Valley goalkeeper Joe Higgins stopped all five shots he faced.
For Deer Isle-Stonington (1-6), goalies Ethan Shepard and Noah Gillen combined to make 26 saves on 32 shots.
Girls Soccer
MDI 2, Caribou 1
At Caribou, Opal Curless recorded two goals to lead MDI to victory.
Curless opened scoring with an unassisted goal 11:55 minutes left in the first half. Caribou’s Sarah Doak scored from a Maddie Doucette assist with 1:14 minutes before the half.
Curless scored what proved to be the game-winner with 27:42 left in the second half.
Morgan Outing had 7 saves on 10 shots for 5-3 Caribou. Keely McConomy saved 4 of 10 shots on goal for 4-2 MDI.
Bangor Chr. 2, Katahdin 0
At Bangor, Bangor Christian defeated Katahdin on second half goals by Jasmin Brown and Alexi Davis.
Michaela Phillips assisted on the Davis goal.
Goalie Sierra McDonald had 3 saves on 3 shots for Bangor Christian (4-4-1). Goalie Caitlin Stevens made 22 saves on 25 shots for Katahdin of Stacyville.
Mattanawcook 2, Penquis 1
At Milo, Mattanawcook’s Paige Hessletine scored the game-winner in the second overtime to beat Penquis Valley.
Rebecca Pierce scored for Penquis on an assist from Megan Witham to take the 1-0 lead with seven seconds remaining in the first half.
Hessletine scored with 3:23 left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Mazie Palmer assisted on the tying goal.
Patriots goalie Jordan Durant made 30 saves on 34 shots. For the Lynx, Meridith Blessard had 2 saves on 4 shots.
Football
Stearns 24, Houlton 14
At Alumni Field in Millinocket Friday night, the Minutemen forced four turnovers that they turned into 21 points en route to their third victory of the season.
Stearns scored the first 14 points with two short touchdown drives that came after turnovers by the Shires. One play after a fumble recovery by Ryan Hallett, Colby Waceken scored on a 10-yard touchdown run to make it 6-0 four minutes into the game.
The Minutemen cashed in another turnover, this time a fumble recovery by Dimitri Carrier, for their second touchdown early in the second quarter. Marc Morneault capped a three-play, 11-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run before adding the two-point conversion to give Stearns a 14-0 edge.
The Shires got onto the scoreboard in the waning seconds of the second quarter with a seven-play, 47-yard drive that came after a Stearns turnover. Jake Drew capped the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run, and Gary Tucker’s two-point conversion cut the Stearns lead to 14-8.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Minutemen extended their lead to 17-8 on the first snap of the fourth on a 33-yard field goal by Brunno Martino. Stearns got the ball back two minutes later on an interception by Dylan Kruger, and seven plays later Morneault scored his second touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run to cap a drive that consumed five minutes. Martino’s extra point made it 24-8.
Houlton answered a minute later with a 63-yard run by Drew on the second play of the ensuing series. The two-point try failed, keeping it 24-14 with four minutes remaining.
Stearns then recovered an onside kick and forced another turnover, a fumble recovery by Jordan Cullen on a muffed punt, to help seal the 10-point victory.
Morneault finished with 114 yards on 28 carries while Drew was the game’s top rusher, carrying 24 times for 173 yards.

Dexter 4, Central 0
At East Corinth, Dexter’s Grace Belanger scored two goals to help the Tigers remain undefeated.
Peyton Watson scored one goal and assisted on another and Abby Webber chipped in a goal for 9-0 Dexter.
For Central, Makayla Boudreau stopped 22 of 26 shots.
Piscataquis 2, Orono 1
At Guilford, Jewel Lamb scored two goals for the Piscataquis Community Pirates to give them the win over the Red Riots.
Lamb’s first goal was scored on a first-half corner off an assist by Miriah Chapman. Orono’s Katie Walker scored on an assist from Holly LaBrecque to tie the game 1-1 at the half.
Lamb scored an unassisted goal early in the second half to give PCHS the lead.
Orono goalie Maiah Cyr had 8 saves on 13 shots, while Piscataquis goalie Sydney Mardenhad 5 saves on 11 shots.
